Lamine Yamal’s performance in El Clasico has come under serious criticism, not only because of the high standards he has set for himself but because of the player’s pre-game statements that only served to up the stakes.
While the player has almost always delivered after making such open warnings, last night was a rare instance of when he failed to turn up completely.
In 90 minutes, he completed only 50% of his dribbles, had just 55 attempted passes and no accurate crosses.
As relayed by El Chiringuito TV in a recent report, Yamal is still not at 100% and has not completely recovered from his pubalgia that has ruled him out of action in recent weeks.
The outlet mentions that the teenager is still dealing with pain in the area and played El Clasico through the pain, explaining his struggles on the night.
It is, after all, very unlike the player to hesitate from jumping into dribbles and taking on his opponents head-on, but last night, he was not involved in the buildup even remotely close to usual and barely ever took Alvaro Carreras on.

In fact, he was even seen in discomfort on a couple of occasions and asked his teammates not to send the ball his way during certain passages of play.
The condition Yamal is suffering from – pubalgia – limits the player’s ability to burst forward in pace and make quick changes in direction.
Both being elements that are fundamental to his style of play, it is understandable why the player was struggling last night.
It remains to be seen what Flick does to improve the player’s condition, now that it is clear that he has still not fully recovered.
While it will be a big blow for the team, it would be the right option to give him rest for a few games and bring him back to 100%.
