Robert Lewandowski is currently facing uncertainty over his future at FC Barcelona.

The Polish forward is aware that president-elect Joan Laporta wants to assess the possibility of extending his stay by another year.

At the same time, the 37-year-old veteran also knows that any offer from the Catalan club would involve a significant reduction in his current salary, as well as a more secondary role within the team.

Chicago Fire step up Lewandowski pursuit

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Chicago Fire are pushing strongly to secure Lewandowski’s signing for next season.

The MLS side are not alone in the race: clubs such as AC Milan and Juventus have also made moves, while offers from Saudi Arabia remain on the table.

However, the proposal from the USA stands out because of its financial power. The figures being discussed could reach €15 million gross per season, plus a further €5 million in bonuses, rising to €20 million.

Against this backdrop, the player’s agent, Pini Zahavi, is currently in Barcelona. After meeting Laporta, he is expected to hold talks with Lewandowski himself and later with Hansi Flick, as well as sporting director Deco.

The final decision regarding the Poland captain’s future will depend heavily on the sporting assessment made by the German coach and the role he has planned for the veteran.

So far this season, Lewandowski, despite having had to compete with Ferran Torres for the starting berth, has netted 18 goals and assisted four more from 42 games in all competitions.
