Barcelona are continuing to make progress on the ongoing transformation of the Spotify Camp Nou, with the works now entering a crucial new phase ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

With the team’s return from their summer break drawing closer and a full season back at their iconic home on the horizon, attention has turned to one of the most important elements of the entire project: the pitch.

Installation of the new pitch underway

According to SPORT, Barcelona have begun the installation of the new pitch at the Spotify Camp Nou, a high-precision process that goes far beyond simply laying turf.

Images shared by content creator ‘@Marouanemero1‘ show that work is already focused on preparing the stadium’s future playing surface.

The ground is undergoing an extensive restructuring of the base on which the new turf will be laid, with specialised machinery being used to sort and prepare the materials that will make up the surface.

Before the familiar green surface appears, the club must complete complex work beneath the ground.

Preparing the subsoil is essential to guarantee the stability of the pitch throughout the season and to ensure perfect drainage in all weather conditions.

The pitch will feature a system designed to efficiently drain water and maintain optimal conditions all year round, preventing rain or low temperatures from affecting the state of the grass.

Crucially, the surface has been designed with elite football in mind, and specifically to suit the style of play that defines Barcelona.

The speed of ball movement, the consistency of the bounce and the firmness of the surface are all aspects the club has prioritised.

Racing to be ready

As July progresses, Barcelona are accelerating the pitch project, determined to ensure the Spotify Camp Nou pitch is in perfect condition when the new season gets underway.

Barcelona are set to play their entire 2026/27 campaign at the Camp Nou, their first full season back at the ground since the multi-year renovation began, with Hansi Flick’s defending champions kicking off the season at home against Athletic Club.

The stadium will continue to operate at a phased and expanding capacity throughout the year, and with the pitch installation now underway.
