The whole world will have its eyes on the FIFA World Cup which is set to take place next month, and the tournament will undoubtedly have implications on the transfer market and player valuations.

Based on their performances at the elite event, the best players in the world often see their transfer values added with a premium after the World Cup, and the same is expected this summer.

Needless to say, that is part of the reason why Barcelona are trying to close down their signings before the event starts. They have already signed Anthony Gordon, and the idea is to do the same with Julian Alvarez.

Player awaiting on the sidelines

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Atletico Madrid striker is waiting patiently to see if his future can be decided before the start of the FIFA World Cup.

He is currently in Argentina’s concentration camp and is watching the negotiations for his future from the sidelines, hoping that his dream of playing for Barcelona comes true. His agents are working around the clock to attempt to close the same.

Despite his name being widely talked about in the media, however, Alvarez has no time to rest as he is already working hard under Lionel Scaloni for the World Cup. Argentina’s first game is on June 16th, and they have two friendlies before that on June 6th and 9th.

A complicated situation

The matter of Alvarez’s transfer has been unnecessarily complicated by Atletico Madrid’s unwarranted social media war, for Los Rojiblancos have come out to unconditionally target Barcelona for going after their player.

Given that the Catalans are offering a sizeable sum and that even Alvarez wants the move, it is simply difficult to understand why Los Rojiblancos are making such a big fuss out of a straightforward transfer operation.

In either case, the move is now complicated by the bad blood between the two sides, and it remains to be seen how Deco and Co. proceed.
