La Liga giants Barcelona could be afforded an altogether surprising invitation to the upcoming Club World Cup.

That’s according to journalist David Faitelson, who has this week provided an insight into the situation.

For those not aware, a spot at this summer’s inaugural Club World Cup recently opened up.

This comes after Mexican outfit Club León were removed from the tournament by FIFA for failing to meet tournament regulations regarding multi-club ownership.

And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media over the last 24 hours is anything to go by, then Hansi Flick’s Barcelona could be the side in line to benefit.

Spain are as things stand due to be represented in the USA by a pair of clubs, in the form of capital heavyweights Real and Atlético Madrid.

As per the widely-respected David Faitelson, though:

‘A magnificent idea is currently floating around Zurich… Not León, not Club América, not LAFC, not Deportiva Alajuelense… Barcelona could go to the Club World Cup!’
