According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will not have to pay a transfer fee to sign Joao Cancelo after he agreed to terminate his Al-Hilal contract.

Barca had previously been expected to spend 8 to 10 million euros on the full-back. Arriving in Barcelona on Monday afternoon, Cancelo said he had issued Al-Hilal with an ultimatum to force through the move.

He said it had ultimately worked out and that he was now where he wanted to be. The arrangement suits Barca, who remain in financial difficulty.

The report adds he is set to sign a deal running until 2029. Cancelo has already had loan spells with Barcelona in 2023/24 and again across the second half of last season.

In 2024, Al-Hilal paid 25 million euros to sign the Portuguese full-back from Manchester City, where his relationship with Pep Guardiola was strained.

He also spent the second half of 2022/23 at Bayern Munich, who chose not to activate a 50 million euros purchase option.
