Enzo Fernandez has recently become a hot topic in the Premier League, following Enzo Maresca’s decision to leave him out on the bench in the last three league matches.

Maresca’s move came on the back of Fernandez’s muted performances for Chelsea, with the Argentine being unable to realise his potential following his €121 million move to Stamford Bridge.

Fernandez, though, is not too happy with his lack of game-time and reports in England suggest he could be looking for a way out, with Barcelona emerging as a shocking suitor.

Barcelona eye move for Enzo Fernandez

According to reports in England, as relayed by SPORT, Barcelona and Inter Milan are among the clubs keeping a close eye on Fernandez.

Maresca, for his part, is defending his decision citing the physical attributes that Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia bring to the table.

The Chelsea coach has also highlighted Enzo’s recent separation from his partner, as one of the reasons that may have affected the midfielder’s form.

Nevertheless, Enzo’s predicament at Chelsea has now raised question marks over his long-term future at the club, with Barcelona ready to make a move.

An ideal replacement for de Jong?

The report adds that Barcelona may consider the signing of Enzo Fernandez only if they can sanction the sale of Frenkie de Jong.

Fernandez himself commands a hefty price tag of €75 million right now, but he could be far more accessible for Barcelona if the club can sanction the exit of de Jong.

The two midfielders operate in a similar position and can also offer similar characteristics, which is why Barcelona see him as an intriguing candidate.

However, the Catalans’ pursuit of the Argentine would depend on many factors, especially considering how Marc Casado is performing, coupled with the fact that Marc Bernal will return to full fitness by next season.
