According to journalist Fernando Polo, reporting via Mundo Deportivo, early indications suggest that Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s latest injury scare is not considered serious.

The Barcelona captain is currently experiencing pain in his knee, but the initial medical impressions coming out of the club are cautiously optimistic.

Ter Stegen felt discomfort towards the end of Barcelona’s training session on Tuesday, just a day before the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Club.

As a precautionary measure, the German goalkeeper returned to Barcelona instead of continuing with the squad, in order to undergo further examination.

There, he is expected to be assessed by the same doctor who previously operated on his knee.

So what now?

From Barcelona’s perspective, there was no hesitation in allowing Ter Stegen to travel back immediately.

The club’s priority was to offer the player every possible support, especially given the sensitive nature of knee-related issues and the goalkeeper’s medical history.

Despite the concern caused by his reaction after training, the first impressions point towards a minor issue rather than a serious setback.

This comes as a significant relief, not only from a sporting perspective but also on a personal level for Ter Stegen.

This is because reports indicate the goalkeeper was visibly upset following the incident, as any long-term injury would have complicated an already delicate situation surrounding his future.

Crucially, if the injury is confirmed to be minor, it would still allow Ter Stegen to consider a potential loan move during the winter transfer window, should he decide to seek regular playing time elsewhere.

So Barcelona are now awaiting the results of the medical tests scheduled for today. The club expects to release an official statement soon, providing clarity on Ter Stegen’s condition.
