Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has made it clear that he is not overly concerned about his reduced role at the start of the new season.
The Polish forward has missed one of the first three La Liga fixtures and only came off the bench in the other two, a sharp contrast to last season when he had already scored three goals by this stage.
Yet, with his contract entering its final year, Lewandowski appears to be approaching things with a fresh mindset.
“This year I personally face my situation differently: I don’t look so much at the number of minutes I have and I will have conversations during the season,” he explained as quoted by SPORT.
“I don’t think I have to play by decree either: we have a squad that allows us to rotate and that’s important.
“Sometimes it’s more important to focus on the quality of the minutes than on the quantity.”
Lewandowski spoke openly about how he is learning from the mistakes of last season, when he entered the decisive part of the campaign lacking energy and eventually picked up an injury.
“This season, we will constantly analyse how I feel. Last season, I played a lot of games and with a lot of intensity.

“There were times when I felt very tired, and I was injured in the final stretch of the season.”
The veteran striker stressed the importance of pacing himself, particularly with the Champions League set to begin soon.
“We know that when the Champions League starts, there is very little recovery time between games, and it will be important to manage the wear and tear well.
“I think this start of the season will be just as difficult as the previous one, so we have to be prepared.”
Fixture congestion will leave little time for recovery, and Lewandowski knows he cannot afford to burn out.
“I’m aware that the intensity is very high, also because of the way we play, so we’ll all need to rest at some point.
“I have prepared very well this summer. I’ve had a lot of holidays, I’ve been fine-tuned and I think that will help me throughout the season.”
From his comments, it is clear that Lewandowski’s focus is not on chasing big numbers but on staying fit and delivering.
