FC Barcelona captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen has had a torrid couple of seasons with injuries. The German goalkeeper has suffered one issue after another that has kept him out of action and has needed multiple surgeries.
Having missed the majority of last season, ter Stegen reported for pre-season feeling discomfort. After weeks of deliberation, he went under the knife once again, trying to fix the problem once and for all. Meanwhile, Barcelona signed Joan Garcia as their new No. 1.
Post-surgery, ter Stegen posted a self-diagnosed recovery period, reportedly in a bid to prevent the club from using his injury to register Joan, but after being unceremoniously stripped of the captaincy, he gave in and signed the medical document. Those three months have come and gone.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona star Marc-Andre ter Stegen has now shared a video clip of himself training on the pitch with the ball at his feet for the first time since his surgery. It is an indication that his recovery is going well.

The veteran goalkeeper is still a couple of months away from making a complete recovery, and, even if he does, it is unclear whether he has a future at Barcelona. Joan Garcia has done very well for Flick’s side and looks set to be the future.
There has been talk of a potential loan for the German in the January transfer window. With Manuel Neuer’s retirement from the national picture, ter Stegen will need regular game time to secure a World Cup spot.
It remains to be seen how things progress between now and January and what the future holds for ter Stegen. The unanimous feeling is that the German has played his last game in a Barcelona shirt, but let’s wait and see how things play out.
