Barcelona host Como at the Estadi Johan Cruyff on Sunday night, in what promises to be a reunion filled with compelling narratives for the 60th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy.
Iñaki Peña remains the only officially registered goalkeeper and is set to start between the posts. Wojciech Szczęsny, who signed a new two-year deal until 2027, awaits registration alongside summer signing Joan García from Espanyol.
Marc-André ter Stegen underwent back surgery on 29 July and is expected to be sidelined for 3-5 months. The German was briefly stripped of the captaincy over his refusal to share medical data with La Liga. However, he has since been reinstated with the issue solved.
Marcus Rashford is expected to feature despite remaining unregistered with La Liga. The England international, on loan from Manchester United, expressed confidence about the registration situation, telling reporters: “I’m not worried. It’s something the club has to sort out, and I trust that they will.”
Gerard Martín also awaits first-team registration, along with Roony Bardghji from FC Copenhagen.
In a major development, Iñigo Martínez has terminated his contract to join Al-Nassr. The 34-year-old defender’s departure frees up salary space to help register other players. Elsewhere, Ferran Torres underwent emergency appendix surgery in May and remains unavailable.
Cesc Fàbregas returns to Barcelona for the first time as a manager, leading Como after their Serie A campaign last season. The Spanish tactician will be reunited with Sergi Roberto, who joined the Italian club last summer after over a decade at Barcelona.
Former Barcelona academy product Alex Valle has made his loan permanent, while ex-Celtic winger Nicolas Kuhn is among the new arrivals.
Como’s recent preparation was eventful, with their 3-2 victory over Real Betis marred by first-half altercations that saw players from both sides dismissed. Assane Diao, Lucas Da Cunha, and Iván Azón found the net in their comeback victory.
FC Barcelona: LWWWW
Barcelona have recently returned from a successful Asian tour that saw victories over Vissel Kobe, FC Seoul, and Daegu FC. Hansi Flick’s side sealed La Liga and Copa del Rey titles last season and will use this fixture to finalise preparations ahead of their La Liga opener against Mallorca on 16 August.
Como 1907: LWWWW
The Serie A side have been active in pre-season, with wins over Al-Ahli, Ajax, and Real Betis.
This marks the first encounter between the two clubs. Como will become only the ninth Italian side to participate in the prestigious pre-season tournament.

Como: Andrés Fernández; Rodríguez, Moreno, Vignali, Valle; Iovine, Gattuso, Verdi; Belotti, Azón, Diao.
The match will be broadcast live on Barcelona’s official channels and Barça TV+. Global coverage includes ESPN+ in the USA, DAZN in Italy, and Premier Sports in the UK.
