Barcelona aims to bounce back swiftly from their frustrating loss last weekend as they host relegation-battling Real Oviedo at Spotify Camp Nou this Sunday.
After falling 2-1 to Real Sociedad, Hansi Flick’s team has a chance to regain the La Liga summit with a victory here. Oviedo, on the other hand, battles desperately to stay afloat, winless across all competitions since September and rooted to the bottom of the standings.
Flick’s squad responded to the Real Sociedad reversal with a convincing 4-2 Champions League win against Slavia Prague midweek.
Leading up to that setback, Barcelona had been in excellent shape, highlighted by their 3-2 Spanish Super Cup success over Real Madrid. The Blaugrana hold second position in La Liga on 49 points from 20 games, trailing leaders Real Madrid by two points.
Several important players will miss out for Barcelona on Sunday. Gavi is still rehabilitating from knee surgery and unavailable, with Andreas Christensen sidelined long-term after an ACL tear picked up in training.
Most notably, Pedri faces around one month on the sidelines due to a hamstring problem incurred in Wednesday’s 4-2 Champions League triumph versus Slavia Prague.
Ferran Torres remains absent due to a muscle injury, slated to return for the Elche game on January 31.
On a brighter note, Lamine Yamal returns after sitting out the Slavia Prague match through suspension. Ronald Araújo may also be included in the starting lineup having stepped away briefly to focus on his wellbeing.
Possible Barcelona starting XI: J Garcia; Kounde, Cubarsi, Araujo, Balde; E Garcia, De Jong; Yamal, Fermin, Raphinha; Lewandowski.
The match will kick off at 3:15pm BST on Sunday, 25th January.
