The South American U-20 Championship is all set to kick off later this week in Venezuela with a plethora of exciting young players on show.
This tournament is a key event for major European clubs, who scour the region to discover new talent. And it is no different for FC Barcelona either.
Indeed, according to Joaquim Piera of SPORT, Barcelona will have a presence at the South American U-20 Championship in Venezuela, with one of their scouts specialising in the region set to monitor players.
In the last edition, held in 2023 in Colombia, the Blaugrana took note of Vitor Roque, who was an emerging player for Athletico Paranaense at the time.
Roque went on to become the tournament’s top scorer and champion with Brazil and later signed for Barcelona not long after.

This is the second South American tournament in 2025 with Barcelona’s presence. Another scout has spent the last three weeks in Brazil following the ‘Copinha’ tournament, which is the main U-20 club competition in Brazil.
As far as the South American U-20 championship is concerned, there will be a number of exciting talents on show such as Argentina’s Claudio Echeverri, who has already been signed by Manchester City, and his compatriot Julio Soler, who plays for Bournemouth.
Another Argentine talent, Alex Woiski, who plies his trade in Spain for Mallorca, is already on Barcelona’s agenda.
Franco Mastantuono is another player that the Blaugrana have been credited with an interest in past.
The activation of the 1:1 rule now creates a new opportunity for the Catalans, and they could go after Mastantuono again, who is expected to reach world-class level.
