Barcelona’s search for a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski has been ongoing for some time, but the club’s internal plans are now becoming clearer.
A recent report from SPORT reveals that the Blaugrana hierarchy have already identified their priority target for the upcoming summer transfer window.
That name is Julian Alvarez, currently leading the line for Atletico Madrid.
It is said that Barcelona’s interest is directly linked to the club’s financial roadmap.
This means if the return to the “1:1” salary cap rule is confirmed, the club is prepared to make a major financial push to land the Argentine forward.
This is because there is a strong belief that restoring financial balance will finally allow Barça to act decisively in the market, and the striker position has been marked as the absolute priority.
Understandably, Alvarez is seen as a complete attacking solution within Barcelona.

Despite other names being discussed externally, sources inside the club are clear that Alvarez sits alone at the top of the list.
There is no debate internally, as he is considered the number one option “without any discussion”.
In fact, some within the decision-making structure have even compared the potential impact of his arrival to what the signing of Luis Suarez once represented.
Barcelona believe that once the accounts are stabilised and regulatory normality is restored, the market for “nines” will define their summer.
For Barça, this is not just about replacing Lewandowski. It is about setting the foundation for the next attacking cycle.
The club is convinced that if the economic pieces fall into place, the next big striker in the transfer market will come with an Argentine accent.
As such, Alvarez has become the undisputed objective, and if the club manages to certify the return to the “1-1” rule, they will go all in to turn that vision into reality.
