As we move closer to the summer transfer window, Barcelona’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez has taken centre stage.

The Blaugrana are actively chasing the Atletico Madrid frontman, who has emerged as the club’s desired replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Alvarez enjoys a lot of respect and admiration across various spheres of Barcelona’s management, including from top presidential candidate Joan Laporta.

Barcelona in constant contact

According to Gaston Edul, Barcelona remain in constant contact with Alvarez’s entourage as the Catalans seek a potential move in the summer.

This is quite interesting considering the fact that Alvarez’s agent has recently denied holding any talks with Barcelona.

In fact, the player’s representatives have always maintained that he has a long-term contract with Atletico Madrid, shutting down talks of a potential move to Barcelona.

Edul points out that Barcelona constantly tell the press they are interested in the Argentine. However, the club are not in a position to sign the player.

He adds that nothing has been done with regard to Barça’s pursuit of the former Manchester City starlet.

This is hardly surprising as these are still early days. Not to mention, Barcelona will have to sort out their wage bill before they are in a position to register new players in the coming summer.

Even if they manage to sort out the salary issue, the club will also have to bring in fresh revenue through the sale of star players. This process could take time, and until that happens, the club cannot do much to woo Julian Alvarez or Atletico Madrid.
