Robert Lewandowski was the standout performer as FC Barcelona secured a hard-fought 2-4 victory over Celta Vigo at Balaidos on Sunday night.

Returning to the starting line-up after two games as a substitute, he scored a hat-trick on the night, bagging the team’s first two goals, before completing his treble in the second period.

It has not all easy for Lewandowski this season, with injuries and a changed role in the squad, with Ferran Torres overtaking him as the starting No. 9.

Last night, however, the 37-year-old veteran showed why he remains a very valuable player for the team.

Speaking on the pitch after the match, he underlined how crucial the result was in the title race.

“Yes, we’re very happy to win a game here 2-4. It’s always difficult for us to play in Vigo, but the most important thing is that we won and we’re now three points behind Real Madrid,” said Lewandowski.

The veteran Pole acknowledged that “in the second half we had the game more under control,” but lamented that “in the first half I think Celta scored some very easy goals.”

Lewandowski also admitted that the team had an honest chat about needing to improve their game during the mid-game break, saying: “At half-time, we talked about what we can improve, how we could play better.”

“The fourth goal was very important in allowing us to play with more patience and composure,” he further noted.

The Polish striker also hopes that the international break will allow the team to regain their form and return with renewed energy for a crucial part of the season.

“After this game, we can analyse what we can improve, both defensively and offensively. Now we have two weeks to disconnect from the team, but I hope that when we return, we can play much better,” stated Lewandowski.

Regarding his physical condition, Lewandowski commented: “I felt very good.”
