FC Barcelona made it through to the Round of 16 of the Copa del Rey after defeating CD Guadalajara in their first game of the competition earlier this week.

Hansi Flick’s side secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory away at Estadio Pedro Escartin, with goals coming from Andreas Christensen and Marcus Rashford.

Barcelona are the current holders of the Copa del Rey trophy, having defeated arch-rivals Real Madrid in an epic finale last season thanks to a Jules Kounde extra-time goal.

And, the aim for the Blaugrana will be to go all the way once again in the cup competition, with the first hurdle now crossed.

The other teams in the Round of 16

Apart from Barcelona, the following teams also qualified for the Round of 16 on Tuesday: Real Sociedad, who beat Eldense 1-2; Deportivo La Coruna, who defeated Mallorca 1-0; Elche, who won 0-1 vs Eibar; and Valencia, who overcame Sporting Gijon with a 0-2 win.

On Wednesday night, the following teams made it through: Cultural Leonesa, who beat Levante 1-0; Racing Santander, who won 2-1 vs Villarreal; Atletico Madrid, who won 2-3 against Atletico Baleares; Osasuna, who beat Huesca 2-4.

Meanwhile, Albacete, who knocked out Celta on penalties, Alaves, who defeated Sevilla 1–0, and Real Madrid, who won 2-3 away to CF Talavera, also qualified for the Round of 16.

Athletic Club are also through after beating Ourense 1-0, while Real Betis qualified with a 2-0 win over Real Murcia, and Burgos clinched an upset 3-1 victory over Getafe to secure a spot as well. The winners of Granada vs Rayo Vallecano (Jan 6) will also join the draw.

As per the competition rules, the teams participating in the Spanish Super Cup cannot face each other until the quarter-finals. As such, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Athletic Club will avoid each other in the Round of 16.

Moreover, the rules stipulate that the four teams will face opponents from the lowest divisions active in the competition.

There are already five Segunda Division sides that have secured their spots in the Round of 16 and could end up drawing Barcelona in the next phase.

Deportivo La Coruna, Cultural Leonesa, Racing Santander, Albacete and Burgos, thus, are the five possible opponents Barcelona can face in the Round of 16 of the Copa del Rey.

The draw for the Round of 16 of the Copa del Rey will take place on Wednesday, 7 January 2026, at the headquarters of the Spanish Football Federation in Las Rozas. The ties will be played between 13 and 15 January.
