According to Globo.com, Santos midfielder Álvaro Barreal has been issued only a warning by the STJD (Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva) for his red card against Coritiba on Sunday in the 16th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, so he will miss only Saturday's match with Grêmio through automatic suspension.
The incident occurred in the second half when the Argentine halted a counter-attack by catching forward Breno Lopes. Referee Paulo Cesar Zanovelli recorded in his report that he dismissed Barreal for a challenge using excessive force that struck his opponent's legs.
Barreal was charged under Article 254 of the Código Brasileiro de Justiça Desportiva (CBJD) for delivering kicks or blows unconnected to a challenge, in a forceful manner or assuming the risk of causing harm. Under the code, that article carries a suspension of four to 12 matches.
The STJD's sixth Disciplinary Commission had initially suspended him for one match, but the punishment was converted into a warning.
The number 22 is expected to return against Deportivo Cueca on Tuesday at Vila Belmiro, in the Copa Sul-Americana.
Santos are 16th in the Campeonato Brasileiro on 18 points, ahead of Corinthians, who open the Z-4, on goal difference.
