A barrier at Stade Lebon in Angoulême gave way in the Bordeaux away end as fans celebrated a penalty that was later disallowed. There appeared to be no injuries.

Nearly 1,000 Girondins supporters had travelled on Friday for a National two Group A fixture. According to TV7, Bordeaux have lodged a protest over the referee’s handling of the penalty episode.

Matthieu Villette converted from the spot in the 19th minute, sparking celebrations in which many fans tumbled forward when the barrier separating the section from the pitch gave way. The game was halted briefly, five minutes at most.

The referee ruled Villette had struck the ball with both feet, so the goal was chalked off, yet no retake was ordered despite last year’s IFAB change.

The match finished 0-0, ending Bordeaux’s run of four wins and preventing them from pulling clear of their main promotion rival, La Roche-sur-Yon. La Roche were also held, drawing 1-1 with Les Herbiers in a Vendée derby.

The duo are eight points ahead of third-placed Bayonne and meet in two weeks in what could prove decisive.
