Barry Bannan has praised the Sheffield Wednesday supporters after a nine-point week in League One

Sheffield Wednesday rose to the top of League One on Saturday after picking up their third win in the space of a week away at Peterborough United.

It's been a brilliant few months for the Owls, all stemming from the news surrounding the Arise takeover ahead of their final-day win against West Brom in the Championship last season.

Plenty of momentum and good feeling were generated over the off-season, whether that was from the eradication of a possible 15-point deduction, new faces being hired in board roles that former owner Dejphon Chansiri didn't even use, or a busy window of additions, with 18 new players joining the club.

Perhaps it was all three, and more. Most importantly, though, it's been capitalised on in their performances. Henrik Pedersen's side have already won more than double the league games they did in the entirety of last season, scoring 13 goals along the way.

Indeed, Sheffield Wednesday came out of their first three-game week in league action with maximum points.

Within that were two hard-fought wins on the road at Wycombe Wanderers and Peterborough within four days of each other, and before that, they trounced Bromley at Hillsborough, scoring seven without reply in what ended up being a 7-2 win.

While the Chairboys and Posh haven't had the greatest starts to the new campaign, picking up maximum points on the road is impressive regardless, and the win against Bromley came against a side who were unbeaten through the first two games.

Any early worries of the club perhaps taking a little more time to gel have been dashed by some great results, especially on the road, where Wednesday are backed with more numbers than most of their third-tier peers.

One of the 18 new arrivals was a returning legend in Barry Bannan, who spent over a decade at Hillsborough before he left amidst uncertainty surrounding the future of the club in administration back in January.

The Scotsman has moved into the top five all-time appearance makers for Wednesday in the last month, with the matchup at London Road taking his tally to 484. So far this season, he's assisted twice in seven games, but his experience and quality at the level have been a joy to watch among Owls fans.

Bannan may no longer be the official club captain, but the 36-year-old is still one of the leaders in this group, and he took to Instagram on Monday to praise the travelling support at Peterborough on Saturday and outlined that the side "want more," despite their strong start.

"Great away day collecting 9 points in a week. Lads gave everything again; we will get better, but great start and we want more 🦉 fans amazing again 👏," he wrote.

The win against Peterborough made it three away wins from three, which is very positive. They return home on Saturday to take on bottom club Wigan Athletic, looking to make it four wins in a row and backing up that 7-2 win against Bromley in their last home game.

It's safe to say that Wednesday fans have endured some really miserable months over the past year or so. To have a squad and an organisation behind the scenes they are proud to support is nothing more than what they deserve.

The Owls have scored the most goals in League One, created the most expected goals, have the second-most shots and the most shots on target through five games.

For a fanbase that saw their side end last season with a -60 goal difference, seeing free-flowing, attacking football with players who are very good for the level is something they're not taking for granted at all.

Bannan and the rest of the Wednesday squad evidently see that, and are keen to continue putting on a show to entertain supporters who found going to football a chore over the last few years.
