Bartosz Bereszyński has spoken of his delight over joining Napoli, but admits he was surprised when he was given the call to join the Serie A leaders.
The 30-year-old has joined on loan from Sampdoria until the end of the season, expected to provide back-up and competition for right-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo.
The Pole, who featured in three of Poland’s four World Cup games before they were knocked out by France in the last-16, moves to Naples after six years at his parent club.
Speaking to local radio station Kiss Kiss, Bereszyński revealed his suprise over the move. “I’m thrilled to be at Napoli. It’s an honour to wear this jersey.
“When the club called me, I was initially surprised and also delighted. It was fantastic news to hear that a prestigious club like Napoli was interested in me.
The defender was an unused substitute as Napoli beat Sampdoria 2-0 on Sunday, but he could be in line to feature in the top-of-the-table clash against Juventus on Friday.
“I spent six great years at Sampdoria, so it was special to return there as an opposition player.”
“That’s where I started out on my path to establishing myself in Italian football. I’m now a Napoli player and I’ll try to call on all my experience for this team.
“Juventus are a very good side and I know how important this fixture is here in Naples.
“It’ll be a wonderful match at an incredible ground. We’ll go for the win and we’ll give everything to claim the three points.”
