Basque High Court upholds three years and 11 months for Real Sociedad fan who stoned Ertzaintza | OneFootball

The Basque High Court has upheld a prison sentence of three years and 11 months for a Real Sociedad supporter who hurled stones at Ertzaintza officers before a 2022 match in San Sebastián.

According to AS, the Civil and Criminal Chamber of the TSJPV confirmed on 11 September the ruling over disturbances outside Anoeta ahead of Real Sociedad v Deportivo Alavés on 13 March 2022.

Police had deployed to control and filter fans for the 18:30 kick-off. Around 17:30, some lit flares, then a group threw bottles, glassware, paving stones, and chairs and other furniture from nearby premises at officers.

Several officers were hit and sustained injuries. Among the group, the defendant lifted cement blocks from the ground and threw them at police, with the court finding he intended to undermine their authority.

The Gipuzkoa Provincial Court had imposed 11 months for public disorder, plus one year and six months for each of two counts of assault on authority. The High Court also confirmed fines of four months at six euros per day for a less serious injury, and one month at six euros per day for each of two minor injuries.

He must pay compensation of €600, €480 and €40 to three officers, and cover costs. He has deposited €1,120 with the court. A cassation appeal may be filed at the Supreme Court.
