A Bastia supporter who threw a flare at Red Star defender Bradley Danger has been handed a six-month suspended prison sentence and a five-year stadium ban. According to L'Équipe, the punishment was delivered on Monday in Bastia.
The incident occurred on five December in Furiani during a Ligue 2 match. The pyrotechnic device hit Danger on the arm in the 56th minute with the score 0-0, and the match was halted.
He appeared in immediate proceedings while in custody and admitted the act, describing it as a huge mistake. He said he regretted it straight away and that frustration at Bastia’s failure to score had prompted him to act without thinking.
He was a repeat offender after a prior conviction for violence outside a nightclub in Nice. The presiding judge recalled he had launched a rocket towards a stand roof at a Bastia game in 2024, after which he was barred from stadiums for several months. The prosecutor requested eight months suspended and 250 hours of community service, plus a five-year ban, citing a serious public order disturbance.
The LFP, Bastia and Red Star were civil parties. He must pay one euro in symbolic damages to the league and Red Star, while Bastia’s compensation will be set at a civil hearing in April. The LFP disciplinary commission has opened an investigation due to the gravity of the events and will issue its decision on 22 December.
