Bayer Leverkusen are interested in a summer swoop for Jadon Sancho with Manchester United “ready to slash” the winger’s asking price to facilitate a permanent exit, according to a report.

Sancho, 25, is currently on loan at Premier League rival Chelsea after swapping Old Trafford for Stamford Bridge at the end of the transfer window last summer. The deal includes a buy-obligation should the Blues finish at least 15th in the Premier League table, worth between £20-25 million, depending on their final league position.

However, it also contains a £5 million cancellation fee, which would see Chelsea pay United this figure in order to renege on making the loan move permanent and send Sancho back to Manchester.

Conflicting reports exit on the Blues’ plans for the 25-year-old winger this summer but The Sun contends Chelsea “want to back out” of the deal.

Similarly, the report states Sancho has “no future under Ruben Amorim” with United extremely keen to sell, to such an extent they will accept a reduced fee for the wantaway star.

The Sun claims a new option has emerged for Sancho this summer with German side Bayer Leverkusen “keeping tabs” on the player’s situation.

“Bayer Leverkusen are keen to offer him the lifeline of a third spell in Germany and sources say United would do business for little more than £20million.

“But Sancho’s chances of a move also rest on him taking a hefty drop from his £250,000-a-week Old Trafford salary. While Leverkusen, who are losing boss Xabi Alonso at the end of the season, could afford the fee, his present wages are way beyond them.”

A deal could prove more feasible if Sancho was willing to take a hit. Or, more realistically, United sanctioned a pay-off to help cover the difference.

Bayer Leverkusen look increasingly likely to lose talisman Florian Wirtz with the German international linked with moves to Europe’s elite this summer. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder thrived in a 3-4-2-1 system under Alonso last season as the team went undefeated domestically, winning an incredible league and cup double.

If Wirtz was to leave, this formation offers Sancho his ideal set-up, in the league which first saw him rise to prominence as one of the world’s most highly-rated youngsters.

Where the English forward failed in Manchester, he could succeed – by regaining the form he once showed – in Germany. He’ll just have to take a hit to do so, but you can’t put a price on happiness.
