Both Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart are chasing to sign FC Köln talent Justin Diehl, as reported by Bild.
The 19-year-old forward confirmed last summer that he will not extend his stay in Köln when his contract runs out in June 2024. Since then, Diehl has been demoted to Köln II in the Regionalliga West. In 17 league games this season, the striker has netted 11 times and provided 8 assists.
Leverkusen have been admires of Diehl for some time but now face competition from Stuttgart, who are also exploring options to bring in the youngster.
It’s not a question of if Diehl goes, but rather when will he go.
Köln also need the money right now to fund winter transfers. Somewhat ironically, the club are in the market for a forward this January.
You’d imagine that the club would be willing to listen to offers this winter rather than letting him leave for nothing in the summer.
With two clubs hoping to sign the youngster, one of them may place a bid this winter to ensure that they get their first.
