Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that Burkina Faso international Edmond Tapsoba has signed a new contract, keeping him at the club until 2031. The club said in a statement that the defender has agreed a long-term extension.

His previous deal had been due to run to 2028, with the new agreement adding three years. The centre-back had also been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Sporting managing director Simon Rolfes said Tapsoba has become a pivotal figure for Leverkusen, among the Bundesliga's leading defenders and performing at a high international level.

He credited the defender as a cornerstone of the club's double-winning team, highlighting his influence across the side. Rolfes added that, as one of the most experienced players, Tapsoba will help lead a squad aiming to compete for titles again, and that the long-term agreement reflects their ambitions.

Tapsoba called the continued commitment extraordinary and emotional, noting that long stays at a single club are rare. He described Leverkusen as a second home, said he is proud of what they have achieved together and that they will target more titles in future.
