Bayer Leverkusen are in line for an €8.5m windfall from Gustavo Puerta’s expected move from Racing Santander to Nottingham Forest. According to Kicker, Forest plan to trigger the €18m release clause in the Colombian midfielder’s contract.

Leverkusen inserted a 50 percent sell-on on Santander’s future profit when selling Puerta for €1m in 2025. An €18m sale would represent a €17m profit for Santander, sending €8.5m to the BayArena.

Puerta joined Bayer from Bogotá FC for around €1m in January 2023. A loan at 1. FC Nürnberg did not yield a breakthrough, and competition from Granit Xhaka and Exequiel Palacios limited his minutes.

He spent 2024/25 on loan at Hull City before Leverkusen sanctioned a permanent switch to Santander for €1m, prioritising the sell-on rather than a larger upfront fee.

Strong displays in Spain, followed by standout performances at the 2026 World Cup, have lifted his value. Forest are not expected to use the 23-year-old immediately, with a loan to Olympiakos for 2026/27 planned once the move is complete.

For Leverkusen, the clause now promises a major return on a player they moved on only a year ago.
