Evangelos Marinakis is pressing ahead with a renewed move for Gustavo Puerta, exploring a Nottingham Forest pathway after the Colombian turned down Olympiacos and was said to prefer Benfica. According to AS Colombia, the Forest and Olympiacos owner is shaping a plan to outmanoeuvre the Portuguese club.

The idea is for Forest to negotiate directly with Racing Santander to buy Puerta’s rights, then loan him to Olympiacos for the 2026/27 season so he could play in the Europa League. He would then return to Forest at the end of the campaign.

Puerta had been close to Olympiacos before rejecting the switch. “We paid the €16 million clause and he is not coming. He wants to go to Benfica. What more can we do?” said Marinakis, speaking to Sport24.

Benfica continue to track the Colombia international as a midfield option and are monitoring developments. He remains on Marco Silva’s list of potential additions.

Marinakis owns both Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos. Puerta is currently contracted to Racing Santander.
