Eligible for both Germany and the United States, Bayer Leverkusen’s Montrell Culbreath is still undecided on which country he will represent at senior international level.

“It's definitely a great honour to be able to play for both countries. I don’t know what will happen in the future,” Culbreath said in an interview with Sport Bild, leaving his international future open.

Culbreath has previously represented both the United States and Germany at U16 level, but has since only featured for the latter.

Now a Germany U19 international, the 18-year-old was asked whether he has been in contact with the US federation since his three appearances in friendlies for the U16s in November 2022.

“No. I assume the Americans also see that I am currently playing for Germany’s U19s,” he said.

Asked what would happen if the US football federation contacted him regarding a potential place in the USMNT World Cup squad, he responded with a laugh:

“I'm not expecting to be called up for that now. I'm focused on the U19 European Championship with Germany.”

The winger has broken into Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s senior squad this season and has started the last four games on the right side of defence.
