Bayern Munich began the new season with silverware after beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 to retain the German Super Cup at Signal Iduna Park.

Vincent Kompany's side made the stronger start and took the lead in the 28th minute. Michael Olise combined with Nathaniel Brown, who fired a low finish beyond Gregor Kobel to score his first competitive goal for the club.

Dortmund thought they had responded when Ramy Bensebaini found the net from a set-piece, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

Bayern then doubled their advantage shortly before the interval. Jobe Bellingham lost possession in midfield, allowing Olise to race into the penalty area before calmly slotting the ball into the far corner despite being under pressure.

Dortmund pushed for a way back after the restart and Manuel Neuer was forced into action to keep out a powerful effort from Konstantinos Karetsas.

Their persistence eventually paid off with 15 minutes remaining. Substitute Fabio Silva collected Daniel Svensson's pull-back and finished confidently to halve the deficit.

Bensebaini was sent off late on for a heavy challenge, making Dortmund's comeback even more difficult. Maximilian Beier missed a final chance, allowing Bayern to hold on and claim their 12th German Super Cup triumph.
