Amid a quiet atmosphere at the Allianz Arena due to the Ultras’ protest, Bayern struggled to build momentum.
Freiburg created the best chances in the opening few minutes and took an early lead in the 12th minute. From a corner, Yuito Suzuki placed a brilliant right-footed shot from the centre into the box and put it into the bottom of the left corner.
The visitors shocked everyone as they doubled the lead six minutes later, with Bayern once again struggling to defend a set-piece. Johan Manzambi headed from close range to the top left corner, but Manuel Neuer could have done better.
In the 21st minute, the first chance fell for Bayern. Alexander Pavlovic delivered a brilliant cross, and Lennart Karl tried to score with a header after making a timely run, but it went over the bar.
Lennart Karl pulled one back for Bayern after a brilliant move. Michael Olise dribbled past three players to thread a magnificent pass to Karl, who scored superbly with his right foot.
Towards the closing stages of the first half, Pavlovic tried to curl the ball from distance with his right foot, but it went straight into the hands of the keeper.
Moments later, Michael Olise found the second goal for Bayern, with Karl providing an assist. The Frenchman produced a left-footed shot from the centre of the box, which hit the bottom of the right corner.
In the second half, Karl thought he had given Bayern the lead after placing the ball beautifully past the keeper, but it was rightly ruled offside.
Bayern turned it around in the 55th minute, with Dayot Upamecano scoring from two yards out from a fantastic delivery from Olise, as the French defender was left unmarked at the back.
Olise, who looked unstoppable on the night, tried to test Atubolu with a fierce left-foot shot, but he could not beat him from close range.
Harry Kane got into the act and scored his 24th goal of the season, as he fired home from close range with his left foot.
Olise troubled the Freiburg defence throughout the afternoon and produced a moment of sublime quality to first dribble past defenders before placing a beautiful pass for Nicolas Jackson, who scored his second Bundesliga goal.
The French winger then produced a moment of extraordinary quality to grab his second goal of the match in Arjen Robben-like fashion. He cuts inside from the right, makes space for himself, and then fires into the far corner.
Bayern Munich vs Freiburg: Here at CF Bayern Insider, we have rated the players out of 10.
Manuel Neuer – 4
Neuer was poor in the first half and probably should have done better to prevent the second goal. In the second half, he was barely tested and ensured Bayern did not concede again.
Tom Bischof – 6
Looked out of place while playing as a left-back, but produced a commanding performance in the second half, after Vincent Kompany changed his position in midfield.
Dayot Upamecano – 8
While discussions about his future continue to dominate headlines, the Frenchman produced a magnificent performance, scoring a goal as well.
Jonathan Tah – 7
A strong performance at the back alongside Upamecano. He made two clearances, and one interception, and was smart with his passing.
Josip Stanisic – 6
Stanisic has proved to be a reliable defender for Bayern, but he does not have enough impact in attack, which remains a significant problem.
Alexander Pavlovic – 7
In the absence of Joshua Kimmich, Pavlovic showed that he is ready to step up. Controlled the midfield in the second half and was involved in some fantastic attacking movements.
Leon Goretzka – 4
A poor performance from him. Hardly visible in the first half, and was taken off in the 46th minute.
Luis Diaz – 6
The Colombian worked extremely hard. He dribbled past players, made some darting runs, and tracked back when necessary.
Michael Olise – 10
The French winger could have easily scored his hat-trick. He was simply unstoppable on the left and produced arguably his best performance of the season.
Lennart Karl – 9
The youngster is a gem. For a while, let us not focus on his contract situation. It is a pleasure to watch him play and do extraordinary stuff on the pitch.
Harry Kane – 8
Kane did what he usually does – score goals. The England skipper has now scored 24 goals in all competitions.
Konrad Laimer – 6
Nicolas Jackson – 7
Kim Min-jae – NA
