Bayern Munich have confirmed that they retain an interest in Manchester United youngster JJ Gabriel.

The 15-year-old is widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in European football, but his future at Old Trafford has come under intense speculation.

The youngster wants to leave the club with immediate effect, with Bayern among several top European clubs keeping a close eye on his situation.

Gabriel has formally submitted a letter of de-registration, meaning that he has asked Manchester United to release him from his current agreement.

Christoph Freund confirmed at a press conference that Bayern are familiar with the youngster, describing him as an “exceptional talent”.

“I don’t talk about players who are under contract with other clubs. We’re familiar with him because he’s very, very talented. He’s certainly an exceptional talent. But I can’t say any more than that,” said Christoph Freund at the press conference today.

The youngster is regarded as an exceptional talent, and Bayern’s recruitment strategy is not solely focused on immediate first-team reinforcements, with the club also committed to developing players for the future.

The German champions can offer Gabriel a clear pathway to first-team football, with the likes of Lennart Karl, Jamal Musiala and Aleksandar Pavlovic having all developed through the club’s ranks.

Vincent Kompany has also shown a willingness to rotate his squad and give opportunities to younger players, which could make Bayern an attractive destination for a player looking to establish himself at the highest level.
