According to Mundo Deportivo, Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka has sent clear signals towards Barcelona manager Hansi Flick to make it known that he would be happy to play under him again.

The German midfielder’s contract at the Allianz Arena expires in June, and he has already sent messages towards the Barça head coach, with whom he worked at Bayern Munich.

Goretzka has not forgotten time under Flick

Goretzka played an important role during Flick’s spell at Bayern Munich and has always expressed admiration for him.

The 30-year-old made 64 appearances for the Bavarian giants during Flick’s spell as manager, scoring 15 and assisting 18 goals, playing a key role in the success that the team achieved.

The midfielder also featured in 18 matches for the German national team during Flick’s ill-fated tenure as head coach.

Given the familiarity and the fact that Flick managed to get the best out him, Goretzka would be very much open to the possibility of a reunion when his contract expires.

Decision up to Flick

At present, Barcelona’s midfield is well stocked, with Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Marc Casado, Marc Bernal, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, Dani Olmo and the converted Eric Garcia.

Even so, the key factor would be Flick’s opinion, and it remains to be seen whether he would consider adding another midfielder at some point.

Last season, without going any further, the German coach had already thought about Goretzka shortly before the winter transfer window opened.

At that time, with Barcelona struggling after a difficult November, Flick wanted to strengthen the squad with a more physical and powerful midfielder. A possible loan move was already being discussed at that point but nothing came of it.

Now, it may not be a priority for Barcelona for the summer, but Flick is fully aware of the situation.
