With Real Madrid in the market for a new centre-back for the summer of 2026, several names have been linked as prospective targets.

Ibrahima Konate of Liverpool is one of the names high on the club’s wishlist. Meanwhile, as reported earlier today, Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi is also under consideration.

Another name that Real Madrid have their eyes on is that of Bayern Munich and France defender Dayot Upamecano.

The French international is in the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena and an extension has not been agreed upon yet.

Real Madrid are closely monitoring the situation, although Bayern Munich are not giving up without a fight.

Bayern Munich president on Upamecano situation

Speaking to the media recently, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer provided an update on the situation surrounding Upamecano and his contract.

The Bavarian giants’ chief revealed that talks were ongoing with the defender’s camp over a new deal and made it very clear that the club wish to keep hold of him beyond this season.

“Talks are ongoing to get new deal done for Dayot Upamecano,” Hainer told AZ, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

“Of course I hope that Dayot will stay with us for a long time to come,” the Bayern Munich president added.

What has Upamecano said?

Upamecano has been at Bayern Munich since 2021, having joined from RB Leipzig, and has developed into a key player for the Bundesliga champions.

Speaking about his situation last month, the 26-year-old defender admitted that he felt comfortable at the Allianz Arena and that his agent was in talks with the club, hinting that a renewal might be on the cards.

“I feel comfortable here, I’m happy. My agent is speaking to Bayern officials,” Upamecano said.

“The talks are ongoing. There’s nothing more to say. We’ll see what happens,” the French international added.
