According to Christian Falk and Michel Schröer (via @MiaSanMia), Bayern Munich rejected the chance to sign Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling.

Over the course of the summer, Der Rekordmeister made it clear that rejuvenating their attacking line was a key aim before the start of this season.

With reports linking the club to the likes of Dani Olmo, Xavi Simmons, and Désiré Doué, Bayern ultimately failed to sign either of their three desired targets.

While Michael Olise was lured away from Selhurst Park, the former Crystal Palace winger remains Bayern’s only attacking signing this summer.

However, it has now become clear that Vincent Kompany’s side were offered the chance to sign Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling.

With the 29-year-old struggling to insert himself into Enzo Maresca’s plans at Stamford Bridge, it is little surprise that the Blues attempted to offload Sterling.

Nevertheless, the record champions declined the opportunity for a number of reasons.

It is understood that Bayern considered Sterling’s age to be an issue, as well as his significantly high wage demands.

On top of this, there was a sense that England international was not an upgrade on the players already in the squad.

With Kingsley Coman and Mathys Tel able to feature off the left-hand side for Bayern, Sterling was not considered a worthwhile investment.
