Bayern Munich unlikely to make January move for Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz

Bayern Munich are not planning a January move for Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz, although the Bundesliga champions could revisit their interest next summer if Michael Olise’s future at the club changes.

Christian Falk, writing for Bayern Insider, has dismissed reports that Bayern are preparing to try to bring Wirtz back to Germany during the winter transfer window. He says Liverpool have given no indication that they are willing to sell the 23-year-old, while Bayern would also face the financial difficulty of signing a player who cost the Reds a reported £100m-plus in 2025.

Wirtz’s move to Anfield came after Bayern had previously held discussions with the Germany international before he ultimately chose Liverpool. The midfielder has endured a difficult adaptation to English football, but Falk believes his performances are improving and expects him to have a strong season.

A potential Bayern move could become more relevant next summer, depending on Olise. The French winger has established himself as an important part of Vincent Kompany’s side, and Bayern are not considering selling him during the January window.

However, the club will want clarity over his longer-term future next summer. If Olise decides against extending his stay, Bayern could consider a sale and Wirtz would reportedly be among their preferred options to strengthen their attack.

There is therefore no immediate threat to Wirtz’s position at Liverpool. Falk says there are currently no talks or deal between Bayern and the player, while Liverpool have shown no indication that they would entertain a sale in January.

Wirtz joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in 2025 and remains under contract at Anfield. He also spoke positively about starting a new chapter under Andoni Iraola during pre-season, describing the campaign as a fresh start and acknowledging that both he and the team had plenty to improve.

For now, any Bayern interest remains a possibility for the future rather than an active January pursuit. Much could depend on what happens with Olise over the remainder of the season.
