Liverpool rule out Florian Wirtz exit as Bayern interest hinges on Michael Olise | OneFootball

Liverpool will not consider the sale of Florian Wirtz in the January transfer window despite renewed interest from Bayern Munich.

Wirtz has struggled to live up to expectations since a £116m move to Anfield in 2025. The 23-year-old has scored five goals and provided four assists in 38Premier League appearances, and has faced criticism after an underwhelming start to the campaign.

Ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher called for Wirtz to be dropped after the international break, following an ineffective showing in the 1-0 win at Bournemouth.

"That was one of the poorest I've ever seen him in a Liverpool shirt," said Carragher on the bonus Jamie Carragher Podcast made bySky Sports.

Carragher questioned whether Wirtz's struggles could still be dismissed as poor form, but Liverpool retain faith in the Germany international and have no intention of entertaining offers in January.

Bayern Munich remain admirers of Wirtz, having attempted to sign him from Bayer Leverkusen before his move to Liverpool.

However, any renewed pursuit from the German champions could depend on the future of Michael Olise.

According toBILD, Wirtz remains on Bayern's radar but would become a transfer target if Olise decides against extending his stay at the Allianz Arena.

Olise's current contract runs until 2029, though Bayern are keen to secure the France international's long-term future amid interest from Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old has developed into one of Bayern's most important players since arriving from Crystal Palace and was namedBundesliga Player of the Season in 2025/26.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer insisted in the summer that Olise was "untouchable" and said the club had no intention of considering a sale.

"We absolutely want to keep him. He has a contract until 2029," Hainer told BILD.

"Here he has the chance to win every title with us every year. I see no reason why he should look elsewhere."

Bayern's priority remains keeping Olise rather than replacing him. However, uncertainty over a new deal could bring Wirtz back into focus for a club that pushed hard to sign him little more than a year ago.

For now, Liverpool's position is clear. Wirtz remains part of their plans and his difficult start at Anfield has not changed that stance.
