Bayern Munich will try to sign €70m Barcelona star in January | OneFootball

Barcelona want to sign a new defender in January, but in order to do so, they may need to sell someone. There are several players in Hansi Flick’s squad that could depart due to a lack of prominence, but one of them is not Dani Olmo, whose future is now under the microscope.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Bayern Munich are showing interest in Olmo, who has been on their radar since he was an RB Leipzig player. The 28-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter, with Fermin Lopez seen as Flick’s preferred attacking midfielder in his gala line-up. On top of this, Barcelona have Ebrima Tunkara coming through, and he will soon take up a place in the senior squad, despite only being 16.

Thus, there could soon be no place in Flick’s squad for Olmo, and Bayern are fully aware of this. According to Sky Sports, the Bavarians are lining up a January move for the 2026 World Cup winner, who is valued at €70m by Barcelona.

Olmo sale does make sense from a Barcelona perspective

When he has played this season, Olmo has been good. However, he has struggled a lot with consistently since returning to Barcelona in the summer of 2024, which is why it could be tempting to accept a €70m offer if it were to come in, especially when considering his replacement (Tunkara) is already at the club.

But in order for Olmo to leave, he would need to be convinced. Like many of Flick’s squad, he considers Barcelona to be the club of his life, so it will not be easy to move him on even if there is strong interest in his services. He is also under contract until 2030, which would not help the club’s cause if they were to push him to the exit door.
