In a statement on Thursday, Bayern confirmed the news with Straus telling their official website: "My biggest goal was to leave the club in a better place than it was when I arrived. I believe we have reached that goal during the past three years.

"I knew from the start that it will be very hard and emotional when the day comes to leave a club that has become such a big part of my life.

"I'm very thankful and loved every single moment serving the club, the players, the staff and, of course, also the fans. I've always given my all for the club, but this also comes with challenges on a personal level.

"What we have achieved together has been great and could not be done without close relationships on and off the pitch. We will have the chance to say a final goodbye at a later date. For now, our full focus is on the things we want to achieve in the coming weeks. Let’s do this one more time together.”

Bayern are currently top of the Bundesliga by 12 points and have confirmed that a successor will be announced in due course.
