Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala has confirmed that close friend Joshua Zirkzee did indeed try to convince him to join Manchester United.

Zirkzee was United’s first summer signing from Serie A outfit Bologna.

The Netherlands international has so far made a decent impression at his new club, the highlight of which saw him score the winning goal against Fulham in the opening match of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Before moving to Italy, Zirkzee spent five years in Munich where he came through the youth ranks alongside Musiala.

Despite going their separate ways in their careers, the two remain close friends and were even pictured holidaying together over the summer following their participation in the Euros.

A few weeks ago, Zirkzee jokingly revealed to a United fan that he tried to convince Musiala to join him at Old Trafford.

Musiala has now responded to Zirkzee’s remarks.

The Bayern superstar told Welt am Sonntag (via Sport Witness), “The jokes go both ways: I also told Josh that he should come back to Bayern. But you shouldn’t take that too seriously.”

When quizzed on whether he could leave Bayern for another top club considering his contract in Bavaria expires in 2026, Musiala added, “I am very happy at FC Bayern and fully focused on our goals with the club and the national team.”

“I don’t think too much about where I will be playing in five years. Things can always change quickly in the world of football.”

Musiala has been linked to United in the past and depending on how his contractual situation with Bayern develops, he may yet appear on the Red Devils’ transfer radar once again.

In addition to United, Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester United have been mentioned as admirers of the talented 21-year-old.
