Bayern Munich’s Lennart Karl made history on Wednesday evening by becoming Germany’s youngest ever Champions League goal-scorer. Fittingly enough, the 17-year-old touted as “the next Jamal Musiala broke Musiala’s record in Bayern’s 4-0 home UCL victory over Club Brugge. The teenage sensation also scored his first official goal for his Bundesliga club.

Karl scored on Wednesday at the age 17 years and 242 days, making him around four months younger than Jamal Musiala when he scored his first goal. Musiala scored his Champions League goal on February 23, 2021, in a 4-1 win over Lazio Rome, when he was 17 years and 363 days old. Incidentally, Karl scored wearing the number 42 jersey, which was also Musiala’s number at the time.

Bayern’s comparatively quiet summer transfer window accorded Karl a chance to break through for the team in training camp. Karl impressed during Bayern’s pre-season and was quickly awarded a professional contract. In one of his two other starts against Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany, Karl also got his name on the scoresheet. The Germany U17 international notched an assist against Hoffenheim on matchday four.
