FC Bayern have lost out in the bidding for one of Europe’s most coveted defensive talents, with the player preferring to move to the Premier League
Jérémy Jacquet has apparently finally decided against a move to Munich and has settled his future in the Premier League. As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports, the central defender is moving from Stade Rennes to Liverpool FC
According to the report, all parties have agreed on a transfer in the summer of 2026. Liverpool will pay a transfer fee of 60 million euros for Jacquet, plus up to ten million euros in performance-related bonus payments. The player himself has already agreed on personal contract terms with the Reds. The contract is considered to be fully negotiated and ready to be signed
It is therefore clear that FC Bayern have finally lost out in the race for Jacquet. The 20-year-old was long regarded as a potential candidate for Munich’s long-term plans in central defence, particularly in light of the unclear future of Dayot Upamecano. Jacquet was still being closely monitored at Säbener Straße until the end of January, but no concrete move was made
Particularly bitter: Munich had a good chance in the bidding for the defender: „The player would have been very, very happy to move to Bayern, but Bayern were unable to make an offer because their hands were tied by Upamecano and Kim,“ revealed Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg
In addition to Liverpool FC, Chelsea FC were also very interested. Jacquet is regarded as a modern central defender with strong build-up play, physicality and tactical maturity – attributes that made him extremely sought-after on the international market

The fact that Liverpool have now been awarded the contract is also a clear signal to the competition. The Reds are securing one of the most talented central defenders of his generation early and are prepared to dig deep into their pockets to do so. The transfer for the summer of 2026 provides both sides with planning security and gives Jacquet the opportunity to develop further at Rennes before taking the next big step
For FC Bayern, the decision means that the plans in defence will continue to shift. Although the record champions are continuing to sound out the market, many options still hinge on the unresolved issue of Upamecano’s contract. Early access to Jacquet would have been a strategic fit, but is now off the table.
