Bayern star Stanisic on the DFB team: „I think they’re capable of anything“

So far, the German national team hasn’t had a stellar 2026 World Cup. Three games, two wins, and one loss: that’s the record. But if Bayern pro Josip Stanisic has his way, Germany shouldn’t be underestimated.

The DFB team’s performances against Curaçao, Ivory Coast, and Ecuador were certainly not brilliant. But with six points, they’ve at least secured first place in the group, after failing to advance from the group stage in their last two World Cups.

Germany now wants to build on this momentum and beat Paraguay, while also counting on the core of Bayern players, who have delivered mixed performances so far.

Stanisic rates Germany highly

Bayern player Josip Stanisic, however, made it clear in an interview with *kicker* that he considers Germany a dangerous team. The defensive midfielder also made it to the knockout round with Croatia and now wants to make his own mark.

Speaking about the German team, he said: “I think you can always find something negative if you look for it. Of course, a win against Ecuador would have been nice, but at the end of the day, they’re first in a very difficult group, which shouldn’t be underestimated. I think the Germans are capable of anything; you can never count them out.”

He continued: “There’s plenty of quality and potential. If they play as a team and everyone gives their all in every game—just like we Croatians do—they can go very far. From now on, every mistake could be decisive, but so could every good play.”

Stanisic also has high hopes for his Croatian team, which finished second and third in the last two World Championships: “The most important thing was to get through the group stage; after that, anything is possible—we’ve shown that in the past two World Championships. We hope we can do that again. How we play on any given day and a little bit of luck will play a big role from here on out.“
