Bayern Munich are reportedly weighing up sporting director Max Eberl’s future despite Vincent Kompany delivering a domestic double, with Mathys Tel’s move to Tottenham viewed as a key fault line.
Hours before the DFB-Pokal final, Uli Hoeness questioned whether Eberl’s deal should run beyond 2027, telling Spiegel the board still has doubts and putting the renewal chance at roughly 60 to 40.
Discontent within the hierarchy centres on how exits were handled, notably Tel and Kingsley Coman, amid claims Eberl did not secure maximum value on major departures.
Kicker reports the record champions are no longer a cohesive unit, with recruitment and sales sparking rifts, while Abendzeitung says Eberl’s day-to-day relationship with Christoph Freund remains professional.
Hoeness’s public comments are said to have jarred with some on the supervisory board, pointing to tensions not only between departments but within the oversight body itself.
At executive level there is greater certainty, with CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen regarded as safe. AZ says an extension is viewed internally as a formality.
Tel joined Spurs on loan in February 2025, then signed permanently that summer for £30 million on a contract to 2031. In 2025-2026 he made 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and supplying two assists as Tottenham stayed up on the final day.
