According to the latest media reports, Real Madrid have made contact with Bayern star Dayot Upamecano, with the Spanish record champions sounding out a possible summer transfer for the central defender.
FC Bayern are facing an increasingly complicated decision regarding the future of Dayot Upamecano. The 27-year-old defender is playing a strong season, is one of the most consistent defenders in Europe – and is also one of the most sought-after players on the international market. After Paris Saint-Germain recently signaled concrete interest, Real Madrid are now also getting involved in the poker game for the French international.
According to Spanish transfer insider Jorge Picón, the Whites are said to have made direct contact with Upamecano’s advisors, with the aim of explaining their fundamental interest in a transfer and establishing contact with the player’s entourage at an early stage.

FC Bayern are aware of the difficult situation. Upamecano’s contract in Munich runs until the summer of 2026, meaning there is a risk that the central defender will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.
This would be a transfer coup for clubs such as Real Madrid or PSG. Although a high hand money would be due, the total costs would be far below a classic signing with a transfer fee in line with the market. This mechanism is an ideal tool for clubs that focus their squad planning on absolute top transfers.
France superstar Kylian Mbappé recently showed that Upamecano is highly regarded in sporting terms, publicly describing him as „perhaps the best defender in the world in recent months“. Statements such as these increase the pressure on Bayern even further – because they show how much international interest in Upamecano has grown in the meantime.
While Real and PSG are already working on their strategic positions, contract negotiations between Bayern and Upamecano are still at a standstill. According to information from sources close to both parties, their financial expectations are said to differ considerably.
Upamecano is demanding a substantial bonus in the event of an extension. He also wants his salary to be in line with his sporting level – a significant increase on his previous salary at the German record champions. An annual salary of up to 20 million euros is being discussed.
Time is running out for Bayern: if the record champions want to prevent Upamecano from leaving for free in 2026, they will have to find a solution in the coming months that is both sporting and financially viable.
