The personnel upheaval at FC Bayern continues. Following the appointment of Michael Wiesinger as the new sporting director of the campus, the Munich club now has to cope with another departure: chief scout André Hechelmann is about to move to league rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach

As reported by Sky, the 41-year-old is leaving the German record champions after just under a year to join the foals. The exact role Hechelmann will take on at Borussia Mönchengladbach is still unclear, but according to the pay-TV broadcaster, he will act as a kind of right-hand man to sporting director Rouven Schröder and will also have a significant influence on the sporting squad planning

The connection between Hechelmann and Schröder is by no means a new one. The two already worked together successfully at Mainz 05 and later also at FC Schalke 04. This well-established axis could now continue at Gladbach – an aspect that is likely to have further favoured the move

Broad skills profile – Bavaria loses experience

Hechelmann is regarded in the industry as an extremely experienced scout and analytical strategist. He worked at Mainz for many years, where he was already chief scout between 2019 and 2021. He then moved to FC Schalke 04, where his area of responsibility was significantly expanded. From 2021 to 2024, Hechelmann was not only active as chief scout there, but also held the positions of sports director and technical director – a clear indication of his broad skills profile

Hechelmann had been under contract with FC Bayern since December 2024 and was involved in the reorganization of the scouting structures. His imminent departure comes at a time when the club is already making a number of adjustments to its sporting structure
