FC Bayern have once again tried to sign a top international talent. According to reports from Brazil, the Munich club made intensive efforts to sign Vitor Reis from Manchester City in the summer – but Pep Guardiola personally put a spanner in the works.

In its search for the stars of tomorrow, the German record champions regularly look around the international youth markets. Munich’s scouting network is particularly well developed in England, where numerous talented youngsters pass through the Premier League clubs‘ youth systems. One name in particular has apparently caught the eye of those responsible: Vitor Reis, 19 years old, centre-back and exceptional Brazilian talent.

According to ESPN Brazil, the youngster was high on FC Bayern’s wish list this summer. Together with FC Porto, they tried to lure the defender away from Manchester. However, the Munich club quickly met with resistance – from an old acquaintance of all people: Pep Guardiola.

According to the report, the former Bayern coach clearly vetoed the transfer. Guardiola thinks highly of the Brazilian defender and is convinced that he will be able to play a key role in the Sky Blues‘ defence in the near future.

Reis only moved from Palmeiras to Manchester City at the start of 2025. According to media reports, the Premier League champions paid a transfer fee of around €40 million – an impressive amount for a player who was only 18 years old at the time and had a market value of just €14 million. City’s confidence in the talent was therefore enormous right from the start.

Spanish loan instead of Bayern transfer

In order to give the young defender playing experience at a high level, Manchester City loaned him out to FC Girona, which is also part of the City Football Group, in the summer. Reis immediately established himself in the Spanish LaLiga and played the full distance in almost all competitive matches. His performances have caused a stir in both England and Spain.

According to ESPN Brazil, Guardiola is said to have made it clear that Reis is part of Manchester City’s long-term plans for the future. A sale is currently ruled out. Instead, they want to closely monitor the Brazilian’s development within the City family.
