How long will Harry Kane stay with FC Bayern? It’s becoming increasingly clear that both sides want to continue their partnership beyond 2027. The main question is how long the striker’s new contract will run. Lothar Matthäus has a clear hunch about this.

The 65-year-old expects Kane to get his way regarding a longer contract term. While Bayern has so far been linked to a new contract running through 2029, the Englishman would apparently like to sign through 2030.

For Matthäus, Kane’s situation off the field is the main factor pointing toward a long-term stay in Munich.

“He feels very comfortable in Munich with his family.”

“He’s having a blast, not just on the field, but off the field as well. He feels very at home in Munich with his family. He lives a bit on the outskirts, which probably offers him more privacy than he had in London. He likes that, and that’s why I consider a contract extension a certainty,” explained the Sky expert.

Kane transferred from Tottenham to the German record champions in the summer of 2023 for around 100 million euros. His current contract expires after the 2026–27 season. Talks about an extension are already underway.

According to Matthäus, the length of the contract could be a key point of discussion.

“The question is whether it will be two or three years. Harry Kane would prefer a three-year deal. I think Harry will get his way because he’s simply earned that position. Maybe a 2+1 model with a clause requiring him to play 20 competitive matches in the second year (laughs). I’m more inclined to think he’ll play here for the next three years, not just two.”

That would mean Kane would stay in Munich until 2030. By then, the striker would be 36 years old.

Matthäus sees ideal conditions for Kane

On the field, Kane continues to provide plenty of reasons for a long-term partnership. In the 7-0 win over Union Berlin, he scored his 100th and 101st Bundesliga goals—and did so in just 98 appearances. In total, he has scored 152 goals in 154 competitive matches for Munich.

Matthäus sees his chemistry with his Bayern teammates as a key reason for this exceptional scoring rate.

“He also benefits from players like Musiala, Olise, Diaz, and Kimmich. He has the freedom on the field that he didn’t have at Tottenham. There, he was more of a number nine; here, he’s allowed to play wherever he wants. He’s doing everything right, and Kompany has confidence in him.”

Very optimistic signals are now coming from Bayern’s leadership as well. President Herbert Hainer made it clear again over the weekend that the record champions are determined to keep Kane.

“He knows very well what he has at FC Bayern. And of course, we know what we have in him. We want to extend his contract, and I also think that’s exactly what will happen.”

The key question, it seems, is less and less whether Kane will extend his contract—and more about for how long. If Matthäus has his way, the Englishman could be chasing goals in a Bayern jersey until 2030.
