Tayo Subuloye is starting to get talked about a lot after getting first team minutes for Chelsea in preseason.

The long international break is a nice chance to take a broader look at Chelsea, and for journalists to do some more in depth pieces on things away from the first team.

Nizaar Kinsella of the BBC has done a really nice profile of Tayo Subuloye, the brilliant young central defender knocking on the door of the first team.

He goes through the youngster’s early life in Sussex, his conversion from midfielder to defender, his good school results, and his regular presence in first team training.

Loan could come sooner than expected for rising defensive star

Subuloye is still just 18 but is already outgrowing the youth system – almost literally, as he’s not 6’5.

Kinsella ends up concluding that we could see a loan move for the youngster as soon as this season. It’s not impossible – we’ve seen youngsters go on loan for a January to May move which puts them in the shop window for a more substantial loan next summer.

It’s one to keep an eye on as January gets closer.
