The Bayern day in the ticker: Here FCBinside offers you a compact overview of what’s going on at FC Bayern. The most important news, information and transfer rumours of the day about the record champions. And the opportunity for you to discuss the latest developments in the comments section. Monday, 16 March – let’s go!
FC Bayern put down a strong marker in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, winning 6:1 at Italian side Atalanta Bergamo to take a big step towards the quarter-finals
The clear victory has now also led to discussions about the international comparison within the Bundesliga, with Borussia Dortmund in particular in the spotlight. BVB had previously failed to beat Atalanta in the intermediate round of the premier class and had conceded a clear 4-1 defeat in the second leg in Bergamo
In a guest article for kicker, coaching icon Eduard „Ede“ Geyer drew a direct comparison between FC Bayern and the competition from the Bundesliga: „Behind FC Bayern, who have represented us really well internationally for years, the difference in quality in the Bundesliga is enormous.“
Geyer was impressed by Bayern – and added a dig at BVB: „The only surprise was the clarity of the win, and you have to ask yourself what was going on with Borussia Dortmund a round earlier that they went down 4-1 at the same venue.“
While FC Bayern already have one foot in the quarter-finals after their clear success, Borussia Dortmund are currently struggling to catch up with the top flight, especially in the Bundesliga
After 26 matchdays, Dortmund are currently nine points behind league leaders FC Bayern. Last weekend, coach Niko Kovac’s team at least managed to close the gap slightly: BVB won 2-0 against FC Augsburg, while Bayern dropped points in a 1-1 draw in Leverkusen
